SunBird Golf Resort, located in Chandler, Arizona – three miles east of Sun Lakes, was acquired by SBG Development Company (AKA Robson Communities) in 1989. The project was rescued by Robson from the REO portfolio of a St. Louis-based savings and loan association.
With a new series of homes and the construction and marketing expertise of the Robson companies, SunBird Golf Resort was reopened in 1990. During the first six months of operation, 165 homes were sold, making SunBird the highest volume project in the southeast
Phoenix area. In 1998, the community was sold-out with more than 1,600 homes built.
