Fountain Hills, ARIZONA

Fountain Hills is situated on the eastern slope of the McDowell Mountains about 500 feet in elevation above Phoenix. This majestic range naturally separates the community from Scottsdale and the rest of metro Phoenix. And though it seems like another world, it is just a short 25 minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Fountain Hills could be described as an upscale community with hometown character. The richness and quality of life here is evident the moment you crest the mountain pass leaving behind the hustle and bustle of Scottsdale and the rest of the Valley. The community’s most valuable asset is its beauty. Incredible views and natural terrain provide for a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, boating and some of the more challenging and picturesque golf courses you’ll find in the country.

Fountain Hills incorporated as an independent municipality in 1989, after spending most of its history as a master planned development on the far northern end of neighboring Scottsdale. For many years the land on which the town sits was a working cattle ranch, and 4,500 acres of it were sold to Robert P. McCulloch in 1968. The town of Fountain Hills is situated on the lower east slopes, of the McDowell Mountains, as they drain into the Verde River According to 2005 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 23,217. Fountain Hills was the eighth fastest-growing place among all cities and towns in Arizona between the 1990 and 2000 census. Fountain Hills is home to the world's third tallest fountain, and neighbors the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation. Charles W. Juels' Fountain Hills Observatory is situated

The town does not have its own law enforcement. They are patrolled by the Maricopa County Sheriff's office with the elected Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who also lives within the town.

The most valuable asset the community has to offer is its natural beauty. Fountain Hills is bordered on all four sides by open desert terrain. To the North lies the popular McDowell Mountain Regional Park. To the South is the Salt River Pima Indian Reservation. To the East, the Fort McDowell Indian Community, Verde River and Tonto National Forest. To the west the majestic McDowell Mountain Range which separates Fountain Hills from the rest of the Valley of the Sun. These boundaries keep the community from mass expansion and help give Fountain Hills the special hometown feel that residents most appreciate.

The views are nothing less than incredible no matter where you happen to be in town. In fact, views are one of the premier amenities when purchasing a home whether you are purchasing a single family home, condominium, duplex, or renting an apartment. Neighborhood parks offer access to green grass and shade trees for cool afternoon picnics. The Fountain Hills Parks Department works hard throughout the year to give the residents the quality they deserve.

The world famous fountain of Fountain Hills, Arizona, spews water to a height of 562 feet, once per hour. The world famous fountain of Fountain Hills, Arizona, spews water to a height of 562 feet, once per hour. The eponymous fountain was built in 1971 by Robert P. McCulloch, the same year that reconstruction of the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, another of McCulloch's projects, was completed. The plume of water rises from a concrete water-lily sculpture in the center of a large man-made lake and is driven by three 600-horsepower pumps. When all three pumps are on under zero wind condition, the fountain can reach over 560 feet in height.

The community hosts numerous functions throughout the year for every age group including formal galas, art festivals, parades, golf tournaments, theater productions, little league, and a whole lot more. Come experience this special community and we are sure you, like the rest of us, will fall in love. The statement "Come for a day. Stay for a lifetime." holds unmistakably true in Fountain Hills.
